These instruments are intended for measuring tensile strength perpendicular to the surface. They are used to check substrate quality (cohesion force measurement) and surface material quality (adhesion force of dual and multi-layer systems) or to determine mutual adhesion of individually applied layers. An inductive force sensor is used as the measurement element.

Description Pull-off tester COMTEST®OP1-S:

These instruments are intended for measuring tensile strength perpendicular to the surface. They are used to check substrate quality (cohesion force measurement) and surface material quality (adhesion force of dual and multi-layer systems) or to determine mutual adhesion of individually applied layers. An inductive force sensor is used as the measurement element.

Pull-off test procedure using the COMTEST®OP1-S:

  1. The surface material is cut down to the substrate using a crown drill bit (hand milling machine) to an appropriate standard diameter. This ensures (defines) a precisely measured area. It can be also used angle grinder – the test area will be created as square area with edge of 50 mm
  2. A test disc (circular of square) is affixed to the surface material at the measured location with a suitable adhesive.
  3. Once the adhesive has cured, the test disc is connected to the COMTEST®OP1-S pull-off instrument. A load is applied to the test disc by turning the crank wheel.
  4. The measuring unit gives an audible signal when the optimum loading rate is exceeded. During the test, it constantly recalculates the load force increase rate. When the set limit (e.g. 100 N/s) is exceeded, it informs the test technician by beeping.
  5. The disc is loaded until the material is pulled off. The electronic measuring unit displays the maximum force or tension achieved, usually on a disc 50 mm in diameter.
